The Windham County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with the Windham Regional Career Center, hosts the Protective Services: Law Enforcement class. The course is designed to familiarize students with interests not only in law enforcement, but within the entire criminal justice system from state and federal court houses to corrections. Students will be taught numerous aspects of law enforcement and leave the course with a portfolio demonstrating a students ability to process a criminal case, a motor vehicle accident and a motor vehicle stop.
Course Description
This program is for the person seeking to become a part-time police officer and is modeled on the requirements set forth by the State of Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council. Students will learn the laws of arrest, motor vehicle laws, introduction to criminal law, search and seizure, note-taking and report writing, first aid, firearms handling and an overview of forensic studies. Law Enforcement includes supervised hands on exercises, various presentations, lectures and demonstrations. Numerous class trips to the Vermont Police Academy, courts and correctional facilities are part of the curriculum. The program does not certify students as a police officer, but the successful completion of the course can be submitted to the Training Council for credit towards a credential and enhance the students' eventual entrance into the Vermont Police Academy. --Windham Regional Career Center Program of Studies 2006-2007
